INVENTION OF KERMANTLE ROPE
In 1953, Edelweiss introduced the biggest innovation ever in the world of mountain sports. They invented the kermantle rope, a rope made of a seperate interior core and protected by a braided exterior sheath.
This sparked an evolution of mountaineering and modern sport climbing due to the new ropes strength, durabilty, as well as flexibility. The invention made ropes safer to climb on and is still used for all climbing ropes today.
