The Jura has many times been the scene of significant ascents in climbing history. So it was in 1986 when Antoine Le Menestrel climbed “Ravage” (8b+/c), then the hardest climb in the world, at Chuenisberg near Basel. Seven years later, Fred Nicole took it up a notch higher with “Bain de Sang” (9a) in St. Loup. After this early euphoria, the Jura walls went through a quiet period. The high end top climbers moved on. The fabulous woods and rocks remained. Besides the hard classics, the guidebook offers plenty of options for the average climber. A great variety of well protected routes ranging from 6a to 8a in perfect Jura limestone await you.
